Things that Distract Me When Writing

The dog, kids, Facebook, video games, internet, yard work, dinner ideas, Basically everything can distract a writer or make it difficult for them to complete even a short piece of work like this post.  As a matter of fact, this post is an excellent example of how a writer can become distracted. This post was 3 words long, 4 if you count the word "the". I started it about 5 years ago and never got around to finishing off my list. So the fact is 5years worth of real life can distract a writer as well. What was I doing these past 5 years when I should have been finishing this blog post......... I cant even remember. So, I suggest to get to your writing when the dog is well fed and already walked, your Facebook is checked, your video game is updating or the server is down, you feel you have reached the end of the internet, your grass is mowed, and dinner is squared away. After all these menial chores are complete write something!

How to Get Back on Track After not Writing For a Period of Time

So, you have writers block, or writers bore, or maybe even writing started to make you snore.  The best way to get back in the habit is to start with whats around you.  Recently Saturday Night Live had a weekend update guest, the author of the Game of Thrones books (Author played by SNL's Bobby Moynihan) Apparently according to this joke skit the author is having a hard time writing sequels that will keep Game of Thrones watchers enthralled.  Moynihan jokes that most of the next book takes place in Denver and  the kings and queens are named Rachel, Chandler, and Monica. News show host Cecily Strong states that he must have thought of that while watching episodes of friends. The author (Bobby Moynihan) agrees and also jokes that he created the White Walkers from the popular series after a white man walked by him. Basically what is being said is that you take what you write from things around you.  Authors can take whats around them and turn them into anything with the use of a few literary tools.
